The Values of Tourism

Nordic tourism today is increasingly affected by global conditions. Decelerating economies, climate challenges, networked communities and ubiquitous digital technologies are all setting their traces on the industry of mobile consumption. The 23rd Nordic Research Symposium in Tourism and Hospitality will address the contemporary context of tourism by calling for reflexive approaches to understand and assess these transformations. As the thematic title indicates, the goal is to stimulate and contribute to trans-disciplinary discussions representing different empirical, conceptual or methodological approaches on the value(s) of tourism.

The Scientific Committee invites you to take part in this enriching process and welcomes individual contributions as well as proposals for conference tracks related to (but not limited to) the following themes:

  • Values of Tourism Research and Scholarship (Research paradigms and methodologies)
  • Values of/for the Tourist (Consumer behavior, tourist experiences and value co-creation)
  • Values in Businesses (Entrepreneurship and innovation, strategy and management)
  • Value Chains and Value Networks (Destination networks, learning and cooperation, knowledge dynamics)

  • Value of Tourism for Destination Development (Destination marketing and management, events, festivals)
